QARTOD Lens
Quality Review
Run QC Review — runs QARTOD checks (range, spike, flat-line, stuck-value) on the active metric
Focus or Export — jump the map to the first flag, or export flags as JSON for a notebook
▸ 💡 What QARTOD checks for + example workflows
Range test — flags values outside the metric's physical or sensor-spec range (e.g. SST below -2°C or above 40°C).
Spike test — flags values where the rate of change between samples exceeds a threshold. Common cause: sensor glitch, comms hit.
Flat-line test — flags identical values across N consecutive samples. Common cause: stuck sensor, frozen DAC.
Workflow: Pick a metric in Chart Builder → switch to Quality → Run QC Review → 🎯 Focus first flag → map pans to the offending station → Inspect that site → ✎ add an annotation explaining the issue.
Hand-off: ⤓ Export flags JSON → attach to a Sensor Health ticket → ops team can reproduce + decide whether to swap the unit.
Run QC Review to evaluate the active metric.

Bathymetry · OMEGA mapping ROV
🌊 Bathymetric Map Workspace
Upload an OMEGA-format ROV CSV (or our canonical lat/lon/depth_m shape) and the gateway will ingest every sounding as a bathymetry-depth observation. Generate an IDW-interpolated grid + export as KML/KMZ for Google Earth, or open the layered map view for a live overlay. ROV nodes flashed with firmware/mapping_rov_mega or firmware/mapping_rov_esp32 stream their soundings live into the same store.
Click ↻ Refresh stats to load the current sounding count + depth range.
📤 Upload sounding CSV
Accepts the OMEGA standalone-logger format (depth_cm, MM/DD/YYYY date, speed_kmph) or the canonical OMEGA shape (depth_m, ISO date, speed_mps). Comment lines starting with # are skipped.
Pick a CSV file to enable upload.
🧮 IDW grid parameters
The interpolated grid is built on the server from the soundings in measurements. Tune the IDW power + neighbor count to balance smoothness vs. fidelity. The KML/KMZ downloads use these same params.
Click Build grid preview to compute + summarize the IDW surface.
🍳 RECIPESBulk-add watches across many sites in one click:
▸ 💡 Example workflows — when to use watches
"Alert me on storm onset." → ⚠️ Watch storm alerts recipe → as soon as an NWS zone goes active, lighthouse glows red.
"Track a sensor I just deployed." → Add watch form below → pick the sensor's metric + station → set ±10% → wait for drift outside that tolerance.
"Catch the next heatwave." → 🌡 Watch every SST site recipe → ±10% threshold across the whole fleet → first one to spike fires the alert.
"Reset baselines after a calibration." → ↺ Re-arm all watches → every watch re-baselines from the current value → past drift is forgiven, only new drift triggers.
"Audit your alerts." → 📥 Export watches CSV → review what you're watching (metric, site, baseline, threshold, fired/healthy) in a spreadsheet.
"De-clutter." → 🧹 Clear stale watches → removes watches whose baseline is older than 24h (likely deployed sensors that went offline).
🔬 Inspect
Start with a recipe — pivots straight to what matters
Or filter — category, site, search, freshness
Act on a tile — chart it, watch it, pin it

🍳 RECIPESOne-click data-aware pivots — try one before filtering manually:
▸ 💡 Example workflows — how operators actually use Inspect
"Anything weird happening right now?" → 🔥 What's changing outcome chip → tiles re-rank by trend % → top of the list is your story.
"Find the hottest site." → 🌡 Hottest SST recipe → Inspect pivots to that station with SST highlighted → click 📊 Chart this to see history.
"Alert me if a metric drifts." → click any tile → ➕ Watch → set a tolerance window → drift gets a 🚨 in the lighthouse badge.
"Build a daily snapshot." → 📌 Pin top 5 recipe pins the top tiles to Pinboard → next morning open Pinboard for a comparison.
"Hand off to a teammate." → 📋 Copy snapshot → paste the Markdown into Slack — they get site, metric, value, fresh-ago, all at once.
"I only care about waves." → click the 🌊 Waves category chip → tiles collapse to wave-only → search "swell" to narrow further.

Briefings
A queue of recent items from configured marine-data and ocean-research feeds, ranked by relevance for the project.
How this page works
Sources fetch automatically when this page opens — NOAA / NOS, marine-tech blogs, ocean-research feeds. The status line under each story shows where it came from.
Update Sources re-fetches every feed right now. Use this when the queue feels stale or you want the latest items before drafting.
Draft New Story sends the current queue to Honu, which writes a short briefing draft from the top-ranked items. Drafts go into the Editorial Queue (collapsed below) for human review before publishing.
